The sea condition was comfortable despite the wind strength and we were
extremely lucky to just be able to steer a course in the North westerly wind
angle and sail all the way.
Pat enjoyed helming most of the way.
Alex and Imogen felt a little queasy in the choppy seas but managed really
well to overcome it and dealt with the motion very admirably.
We arrived at Pythagorion harbour and found it full of yachts, so we
attempted several times to anchor in the outer harbour, but the holding was
poor, so with winds building we headed for the night to Samos marina. It is only
a 15 min walk from Pythagorion harbour and is great for the boat, but a little
sterile as a place.
The next morning Pat went on a ‘recky’ to seek out any spaces in the
harbour--- he found a vacant spot, telephoned us, so we quickly slipped our
lines and headed at speed the one and half miles to the harbour--- it was like
the start of the cartoon ‘whacky races’!!
We got a great spot on the harbour wall and enjoyed a nice day , eve and
night in Pythagorion. The boys enjoyed chilling with cocktails whilst us
‘girlies’ went shopping for crystals which we later ‘cleansed’ in the sea.
We had a fabulous holiday with Carol, Pat, Alex and Imogen. We had a
nice mixture of many things, different islands, sailing, swimming, snorkelling,
BBQ’s afloat, good food in taverna's, traditional festival and dancing, culture,
history, the ‘joys’ of anchoring and stern to mooring ---and a taste of Greek
life afloat------with some laughter, fun and great friendship sprinkled into the
mixture.
Tony and I had a great time and missed them when they said goodbye and
headed for the airport.
