We left Masala on the 8th Oct, 10.00hrs and motored into a 12 knot t. head wind, later motorsailing. The coastline had a very Tunisian look about it. The low rise landscape and architecture which appeared similar to Moorish style with towers and arched windows. We also sailed past Selinute, near Porto Palo, we had never heard of it, but from the sea it is a very impressive Acropolis with the first Greek temple dated 600BC.
We continued the 37 miles east along the coast to the town of Sciacca, we are told pronounced Sha-ka.

We received a very warm welcome from Vincenzo, an elderly vice president of the small yacht club established in 1975.
The Yacht club is about 50ft by 15ft and houses cups, trophies and numerous photographs of huge fish, one of a 130kilo landed Tuna.
Vincenzo gave us information about the town , he without English, us without Italian and with us using a kind of shared and gestured Spanish we chatted, made friends and ended up with another bottle of local Sicilian wine as a gift.

The town has a single square with a town hall and a view over the largish port which mainly houses a large trawler fishing fleet. The cathedral is very nice and we were lucky to see a beautiful Sicilian wedding. All the gentlemen in black suits, very smart, very Sicilian.

There is also a historic volcanic thermal spring a few kilometers out of the town which was founded here by the Greeks of Selinute. The Greeks carved seats into the stone and etched the names of ailments into the rocks. It was thought to sit in the seat would bring relief or cure of the ailment.

Next stop Malta !!!

Love to all
