The Art of getting out of the water.................gracefully.

How many of us work hard for those holiday bodies ?
Or if not............ we want to look our best in those bikinis and
swimming trunks.......yes ?
Well in the Ionian the glorious beaches are made of the whitest pebbles
washed by the turquoise water. The sea grades the pebbles naturally from
small to large.........and however fine they might be on the seashore or how
rounded they might be washed by time, the truth is.......... they still hurt
your bare feet !!
The beautiful Italians move at pace into and out of the sea, pretending
that it doesn’t hurt and so doesn’t detract from the whole image.
The Danish, Swedish and Norwegians wear all shades, sizes and colours
of swimming ‘shoes and boots’, all very practical, no fashion statements and as
we have found all too often......minus their clothes.
The Brits stoically pretend it’s not really hurting as they try to balance
from one foot to the other, pointing to things in the bay, chatting to their
friends whilst they kill time to grin and bear the next foot hold.........will
it hold me, wont it, ow! or will I fall back into the sea ?
The Finns the other day won the prize........ on a deserted beach adjacent
to the harbour where they thought no one was ‘watching’.................. only
everyone ! Three elderly gentlemen/ sea dog sailors staggered out of the
sea................. no beach shoes, no fashion statements, no pointing, no
gesturing, with clothes on, but with a comical walk of 2 steps forward, no 3
steps backwards, a wobble......... will they or won’t they fall back into the
sea or face first up the beach !! Stagger, stagger, slip, slip and
finally.......... the beach was conquered.
One of the old guys then decided to take a pee in the complete knowledge
that there was no one else on the beach.......... no only an adjacent 30 boats
with crews!!!
How do I know the nationalities of the people who brave the pebbles you
ask............ well mostly they are from boats where their national flags are
displayed.
And so the art of getting out of the water........ gracefully, comically
and stoically continues.
I like to try the sophisticated bikini look, closely followed by the
hopping from one foot to the other dance routine to keep a good foothold and
appear in control........... before falling on my face and crawling out of the
water on all fours............. as gracefully as possible, of course.
Love to all
