En route the highlight of the trip was a visit from approx 5 dolphins, the
only one’s we have seen in the whole of the Aegean so far.
It was really great for Carol, Pat, Alex and Imogen to see the dolphins
playing around our bow---only for a short time, but still a treat.
On our trip to Arki, we briefly visited a bay on the tiny Islet of Marathi,
before getting a good spot, stern to on the small port quay of Port Augusta,
Arki. The sleepy village/port has a couple of taverna's, where we ate good local
food, a small shop and some interesting local characters.
One Greek gentleman in his sixties wandered around in 1970’s cut off denim
‘short’ shorts, an open shirt and a captains peak hat---- from then on nicknamed
and known fondly to us as ‘Captain Hotpants’. Another fisherman
wondered around in dungarees and a Mexican straw hat---- looking like someone
from a spaghetti western movie----- nicknamed ‘the Mexican’.
With stern to mooring of the boat comes the ‘fun’ of crossed anchors with
boats arriving and leaving. Alex and Imogen watched, amused by the line of
skippers who stand on their bows, shouting and gesturing to other moving
yachts--- showing the position of their anchors.
It can be stressful if someone lifts your anchor and unsets the boat.
Our Greek neighbour had his own way of dealing with the stress as his anchor was
lifted and unset by a leaving yacht---he sat on the bow of his yacht singing
loudly in Greek whilst trimming his beard with large kitchen scissors.
Could only happen in Greece !!!
![]() We had a great time on the sleepy island with relaxation, one shop girlie
shopping, swimming, snorkelling and eating good food.
