Tioram is headed for Spain with her intrepid crew
on board. We slipped from the pontoon at Port Pendennis, Falmouth at
1115hrs yesterday (Sat 13th June) are now 24 hours out from Falmouth and
making good prgress into the Bay of Biscay. France is 80 miles to our East
and we will cross into deep Atlantic waters (4000 meters) off the Continental
Shelf in 35 miles
We are making 6 kts into a light headwind
and have to motorsail right now to make good progress. We
managed to sail for a few hours during the night which was good.
We are settling down into our life at sea. The
first 48 hours are always tough and we are working two 6 hour day watches and
three 4 hour night watches so the pattern changes each day.
Highlights apart from sailing, eating and sleeping have been a visit from
dolphins who played alongside us for a while and an abandoned fishing net caught
in the propeller which was freed after a few minutes by the rope cutter (fixed
to the prop shaft) - we didnt fancy diving under the boat to cut it
free! Mind you we were 4 hours out and thoughts of returning to
Falmouth under sail did cross our minds until the bright green net floated
away.
The sea and sky are big big big out here.
Sunset and sunrise were beautiful and the night stars vivid. Moon
came up at 0100hrs to cast it mercurial path towards us.
We all send our love to family and
friends.
