The shallow narrow channel between Comino and Comiotto forms the glorious
Blue Lagoon.
It is worth looking at on google earth. The Mediterranean sea spills
through channels in the island rocks and streams across the shallow lagoon and
continues onwards. The result is crystal clear water, without any silt or sand
so the clarity and visibility is wonderful.
It is a mecca for day trips from Malta and Gozo and we can imagine in mid
summer it would be almost impossible to anchor there. However, as its early
season we headed from Malta to Comino. The forecast was good, calm and the wind
direction meant Cominotto provided protection at anchor.
We intended to stay for one day and night but the location and atmosphere
was so good, especially on the early evening when all the tourist boats
left. We shared the late sun and sunset with 3 other travelling boats and
a couple of camper/backpackers who decided to stay on the island.
The calm, stillness at anchor on the evening was lovely with the boat
hanging on the chain not even pulling up tight. We had a lovely scent of a
spice coming off the islandâlike Marjoram or Oregano.
The photograghs speak for themselves. It was so beautiful we had to go
swimming and snorkelling---HOWEVER--- the temperature was unreal !! Very few
holiday makers ventured in.
Our limbs were numb and the cold water on our foreheads as we swum made our
heads ache.
We swam from the boat to the shallow lagoon where you can stand
up----expecting it to get warmer--- but no---no chance---the water spilling
through the lagoon from open water had no warmth in it.
However, we loved it and can recommend it to anyone--- take a look.

Lots love
