Bequia 18th - 22nd Jan
We arrived in Bequia after a 51nm sail missing the last
light and anchored in darkness. Not something we ever do as the Caribbean has
lovely reefs by day --treacherous by night.
We had hoped to make it by sunset but with unusual head
wind and many tacks later we dropped anchor in an area in Bequia which we
knew well from our previous visit.
It was like going home, the feel of Bequia is a little
like Salcombe in Devon, a lovely bay not unlike Salcombe estuary , with
Princess Margaret's beach to one side and chocolate box houses on the other. In
fact one small hotel is called the Ginger bread, another the
Frangipani.
The benefits are the obvious 30c.
We decided to stay an extra couple of days in Bequia. This
meant one long sail all the way back to St Lucia approx 45 miles to meet our
deadline for my flight home.
We finally wrenched ourselves away on the 22nd, hoping to
sail in to Admiralty Bay again sometime in the future.
Tony and I sat contemplating how lovely the Grenadines had
been and how difficult and uncomfortable our Atlantic voyage had been. A week
after arriving in St Lucia we had felt that we would be very unlikely to choose
to do the Atlantic again.
On our last day in Bequia I said , 'If I had to do the
same Atlantic trip all over again to come to the Grenadines and particularly the
Tobago cays-----I would do it again---would you ??.
Tony replied , 'Yes, I would'----- we both smiled and so
we are planning another trip sometime in the future.
I feel another ARC ( Atlantic Rally Crossing) coming
on-------definitely should have married a domino player-----perhaps less
exciting---- but safer !!!!
Enjoy the delights of our Bequia
photos.
Love to all
