As we have travelled round the world we have met
many wonderful people. In Mauritius this continued and there we met Terry and
Karen Warren from South Africa.
Karen happened to be travelling back to South
Africa when we would be there and kindly invited us to spend some days at
their game lodge and take us around on Safari.
We spent the most amazing couple of days with
Karen last week on Safari. As well as many other of Africa's wild
animals we encountered the "Big Four".
Of course there are actually a Big Five but
the Leopard eluded us. As well as the Rhino, Lion, Elephant and Buffalo we saw
many other wonderful animals. The prize however was the African Wild Dogs
which are very rare and we were very lucky to see them.
Though all the animals were impressive it was,
surprisingly, the encounters with the Giraffes that generated most
awe.
Most of the rest of the time has been spent
starting working our way through the repairs required from our Mauritius -
Durban passage mixed with local attractions.
However so far most facinating of all for me is the
evolving socio - economic and political situation in South Africa and
how it is affecting the various sectors of the population. To make a
success of South Africa is a tough challenge for all sectors of the Rainbow
Nations' polulation but one which on first impressions seems to offer some hope.
