As I told you a couple of days ago we planned to go
to Maupiti, then Rarotonga and on to Niue before reaching Tonga. We were also
considering several options and combinations of these islands and were also
possibly going to stop at Palmerston atoll. So we considered all these things
and weighed up our options and logically decided to head 500 miles north of
Rarotonga to Suwarrow!
Suwarrow is one of the northern Cook Islands and is
more or less uninhabited apart from a couple of wardens who live there. We dont
really know what we will find but I heard lobsters and coconut crabs can be had
so that will do just fine.
So after finishing another couple of jobs including
changing a genoa sheet which was eaten by a bad lead through the genoa car
we shot ashore to have a final meal in French
Polynesia. We will set sail tomorrow at 0400 with a large
following sea but decreasing winds. We have had over 30 knot gusts today at our
anchorage in the south of Bora Bora before we moved here just off the town and
under the lee of the spectacular high peak of the island. As I write here the
sound of traditional drums accompanying a polynesian choir on the shore sends a
beautifully melodic and unforgetable goodbye chorus to us. Marururu
Polynesia!
I will post you when we are on passage. Suwarrow is
about 700 miles west north west of here so we are hoping for a three night
passage.
