The few days we spent at Phuket Yacht Haven were
excellent and with judicious use of the jaw, index finger and mobile phone I got
sailmakers, glaziers, electricans, engineers and boat cleaners all knocking the
jobs off my list that I would otherwise have been doing if I had put my back
into it.
Morning each day was kicked off with
getting all the workmen started on the days tasks before breakfast. After
breakfast, David Guthrie, who is the Managing Director of Gael Force and I
would spend the morning on business before joining the girls ashore for a
light lunch. In the afternoons everyone else would do their own
thing but that was my two hours reserved for me being horizontal, mentally
willing my bone graft to stick to the four vertibrae it has been tasked with
keeping in an orderly row.
Now at sea for the past few days of course we have
no workmen but the rest of the program carries on as planned. Currently we
have Trish's friend Mairi and David and Debbie Guthrie aboard all as
planned before my accident. In ten days time one of my cousins from Australia
will join us for a week as originally planned. Being able to fulfill these
committments to people makes me feel slightly less bad about letting the side
down than I otherwise would have, had their visits been cancelled!
I try my best to Say what I do and do what I
say.
Last night we anchored up in a mangrove lined river
delta just off a stilted fishing village where the crew were able to visit last
night and early this morning without the many tourists who visit there through
the middle of the day.
After yesterdays blog I have been contacted by two
organisations - the BMA and the BMEA. The British Medical Association think I
should patent the back brace I rigged and the British Marine Equipment
Association are wondering if I would write to all oarmakers in their association
informing them of alternative uses for oars - I told them both that I didn't
have time at the moment as things were full on.
Other than that I don't have anything new, except
steelwork in my back.
