Yesterday inspired by a thought I had while
watching an in flight movie I tried, I fear unsuccessfully, to explain to you
something of what I have learned on this round the world sailing adventure.
I have been lying awake now for an hour or so and I
cannot do that without my mind going into overdrive, so I though I would have
another go at explaining what I was trying to say. Perhaps bullet points would
work better, so here goes.
There are many other things I have learned over the
past couple of years. I have tried to find words for this but have not been able
to. It doesn't matter though. I know what I know now. In some ways for me the journey round the world is more like a
journey into me. I know I have learned and have a different perspective and a
greater insight into economics, politics, government, business. I feel
I have learned so much about business, I guess from being outside the day to day
environment. I have learned much about sailing, about the sea and about the
weather. I have learned how to shoot fish. Yes about the environment too.
It was brought to me in a revelation that the front
wheel of your motorcycle passing through a vertical line above the rear wheel is
very bad for your back. I hope I have learned
that while fierce impact on something hard across your spine may break your back
it need not even scratch your spirit. I have found out these few things and
more. Much more. I will tell you later about it. Mostly of course, and this comes from my brief fling with humility, I
have learned that I know so little.
I will try and sleep because later this morning the
final preparations and provisioning start in earnest for our passage to the
Maldives. The wether here has been attrocious. There has been a storm and Phuket
has been of flood alert due to the incessant rain. And high winds too, they have
caused damage to boats around the marina. But guess what? The forecast shows the
westerly in the eastern Indian ocean moderating a little and the storm
dissipating now.
