Attached are a few images.
The autopilot track after letting go and us losing
steering. Loose gears must have been temporarily jamming steering in one
direction so it looked and sounded like we would not have any steering at all so
we rigged an emergency tiller.
The master cabin stripped down to access the
steering gear.
Emergency tiller arrangement. The Dyneema lines
were led through aft cleats to the genoa winches.
Finally it is always a mistake to describe to
someone how big waves are or how bad sea conditions are then try to show this in
a photo but you can see the severe heel being induced on the boat and also a
great grey spume streaked sea building to our port side.
Obviously in the worst of the weather nobody is
standing there taking photographs but you get the
idea...
