Yesterday morning we left Falmouth harbour in
Antigua at 0900 local time for the 425mile run to Los Roques. The plan was to
leave early one day spend two nights at sea before arriving in Los Roques while
it was stll daylight. We are however stonking down the course and while we have
168 miles to run we shall have to becareful not to arrive while it is still
dark. In the meantime we are enjoying the sailing on a perfect day with F4
Easterly which sometimes has a little touch of southerly in it which is very
helpful for our course.
Trish was initially a little apprehensive about us
sailing with just the two of us but she has settled in well. She has a
ledgendary ability to sleep anywhere any time so we have developed a watch
pattern which works for us both. She sleeps all day and I stay up all
night!
Just joking - we split the night into three watches
2000 - Midnight, Midnight till 0400 and 0400 till 0800. We wil try this out with
Trish taking the midnight till 0400 and see how it goes. We have also decided to
try having dinner in the evening about 1930 while we are both still up.
Trish can sleep either side of her watch and any other time that works for us
both and I can cat nap here and there to make up my sleep. We will monotor this
for a few days and see how it suits us both, but so far Trish's apprehensions
have been unfounded and she has picked up where she left off on the old
boat sailing well crewing well and looking after galley duties too. Heavy
weather and longer passages will sort out whether split of duties and
watches works for us both.
Nothing broke yesterday.
No fish caught.
There also another regime underway aboard, that is
one of keep fit. This is an annual event for us starting in January with a detox
diet (with limited wine allowed) and gym work. This year however the parties and
socialising seems to have gone on for months so now we have no visitors we
can make a start. In addition to the diet I am on a program of press ups,
sit ups and pull ups and Trish is on a program of Lie
downs.......
