Wait for News, I did not have time to send it, on Sunday Morning at first
light the wind had stopped, yes stopped and registering 3.2 Knots, sails not
knowing what to do where put away and a quick decisive move to change course
with the wind not destined to continue until Monday morning a hard right was
iniciated and we were heading to a 8 mile gap in the reef between Durham Sound
and a Tongan island with an unpronouncable name Niuatpoutapu wooded with 610
meter high point, meaning on approach we would see it towering below its
nighbour Tafahi at 610 meters high, but not enough safety space to pass.
In the meantime as it was decided to fish for dinner, a pastime not a hobby
or sport, so we put out our new whistleing diving lure on about 200 metres of
line and waited, it could of course be days before some species spotted the
circus dashing about the surface of the ocean.
So we settled into Sunday knowing we would pass between island and reef
just after dusk,we were not concerned as we had a full moon or near that evening
and it was always early, we spotted landfall at 15:30 so were pleased with our
navigation, our settled Sunday turned into a running from squalls scenario and as
we approched the island and about to furl out sails, the screaming of a fishing
reel rang out and we thought it was not going to stop, however as soon as it did
I struck with the rod to ensure what was on the end was not escaping, a delay in
furling meant we were bobbing about while reeling in what we found to be a
Barracuda, not a big one but plenty of meat for 2 for 2 days...... Lesley was
really exited and I could see her willing for Barry to escape, but he was soon on
board safely stashed in the fridge, fishing ended as we only fish for what we
can eat.
The day finished with us safely through the pass and into the Lau Basin
which will take us within 2 days of our target. We are sailing with ghusto
towards Zephyr reef where we will alter course by a few degrees to take us into
the Nanuka Passage about a day away from our intended landing.
Achieved some additional sleep last night so fealing good today with a
breakfast from the boutique Bacon and Egg in a wrap, we refuse to eat cereals on
a Monday.
