Position 1:33S:91:8:2W Galapagos Goodbye I just checked the plotter and we are in the South Pacific Ocean, after waiting in Galapagos for our new iridium phone we are glad to be on the move. We started with a course that took us south threading our way through the outer islands and are now on a course of 250 degrees bowling along at 6.3 knots with the engine running as we are in the process of tracking down the trade winds that will send us to our destination in the Marquesas. For all you pop pickers out there one of the only songs that mentions the Marquesas together with Papete, Tahiti is a golden oldie by CSN Southern Cross for all the youngsters that’s Crosby Stills and Naish. We soon got rid of the odd miles on the end and now only have 3000 nautical miles to go, for all you avid mathematicians out there you can work out our eta which changes every day. There is a small gap between the Galapagos islands and the trade wind belt of around a day, we have our grib weather files and we are best positioning where we will join. We are now settled into our watch system and I just started the graveyard watch 12:00 to 04:00 so I get a chance to drink tea and eat biscuits while the first mate, the cabin boy and the ships cat all get a good rest, however 04:00 soon comes round and I then get to sleep till 08:00 and another day on the ocean.
