MARSA AKAKIYAI
On Thursday evening we arrived in the sheltered inlet of Marsa Arakiyai. The fishermen soon dropped by and traded a nice grouper for some cigarettes and Coca-Cola. In the evening "Ali" came to see us and asked us if
we would like to visit his village so on Friday we stayed over and joined him
and his children there. He arranged for us to have a ride on his friends'
camels and made us coffee in the traditional way, at his house.
![]() The village was incredibly poor - no running water, no drains and a small
generator for a few lights. People keep a few goats and camels, fish and
live on hope. They are, however, lovely folks and welcomed us in a
really open friendly way. |
