Hi, all
10th day; Can't believe we have been going that
long. I seem to remember somone saying about being bored; well, don't know what
he was sailing but a 29 footer in mid-Atlantic is many things but boring is
not one of them! After the carnage of the last two days, winds and seas
have eased and we are having wonderfull sailing again under full sail and a
clear blue sky. Winds right now are 15-20 kts which is just about perfect and we
are making good speed. We spent the morning cleaning up the mess down below!
it's amazing what you find hidden away in previously unexplored corners of the
boat but probably better not to elaborate!
A quick calculation this morning showed that we are
getting close to half way. I reckon it will be in about 250nm ( that is half
way along charted track rather than mid-longitude which is about
another 70nm). For those of you that look at the ARC fleet viewer, you may
have noticed that most boats take a curved track to the south rather than go for
the 'great circle' route. This is to take advantage of the winds
and currents basically and alhtoiugh a longer route, should prove quicker.
It also means that comparing distances to go for different yachts may not be
quite what it seems.
