Day 5 - Noon June 14th to Noon June 15th

Just after noon on June 14th we passed the half way point – that’s half way between Horta in the Azores and Lagos in Portugal. We were all too tired to have a party but we did have tea and cake!

Horta is one of the little blue islands on the left of the picture below. Lagos is on the South facing coast of Portugal. All we had to do was head East and we would hit the Portuguese coast and follow it round to Lagos. Simple really!

What we’re up against – red is strong wind – blue is light wind

My old friend the weather had other ideas. You can see the wind is relentlessly pushing us South and Morocco now looks a distinct possibility. We have reasonably big seas at the moment but they should start to die down in another 24 hours or so and we can then plan how to head north. This is proving to be yet another testing passage.

4 of the big boats in the fleet have now overtaken us.

Talking of big boats two huge container ships passed us at around 4 in the morning. They were very close (too close for comfort) and the skipper was thinking he might have to take avoiding action at one point.
