Bermuda to Azores - Day 2
Day 2 – Noon 20th May to Noon 21st
May The fleet has dissipated and is now out of sight. It’s
just the four of us again out on the ocean. So far the wind has been kind to us
and after two days we’ve racked up 262 miles in the right direction. That rate
would put us in Horta in 14 days, not the 16
allowed. But there’s a problem called weather. We’ve been staying
south because there was a gale warning to the north of us on day 1 which
developed into a storm warning by day 2. We might be crazy to want to cross an
ocean but we’re not that stupid. Looking at our route further ahead all I can see is no
wind or wind against us as the storm peters out. Day 3 should be ok but after
that progress might be painful for a while. We’re being entertained by great shearwaters skimming the
surface of the waves at high speed. These birds have amazing skill and
manoeuvrability. There’s always some wildlife out here to capture the
imagination even if it’s too difficult to capture on
camera. Talking of entertainment we have Graham. I have to say
his cooking is far better than his singing. Chilli-con-carne first night. Jerk
chicken and vegetables the second. Nice one mate.
