Day 3 - Noon June 12th to Noon June 13th

It’s been raining today off and on and the wind has been up and down with the squalls.

Skipper in the rain

We’re constantly changing the sail area to balance keeping up the speed with having a reasonably comfortable boat. That’s particularly true when cooking when we have to sacrifice speed to keep the dinner off the floor.

But the sea isn’t helping – it’s not particularly big, at least not compared with what we’ve been exposed to, but it’s at an awkward angle to the boat and life is a little trying. It’s really cold at night but hopefully that will change as we get closer to continental Europe in the summertime. At least we’re no longer getting that heavy condensation that was so prominent close to Bermuda.

The really big plus is that now the autopilot is working again we’re not hand steering the boat 24/7 like we were for much of the last leg.

Meanwhile the fleet has set off but they haven’t caught up with us yet. It’s probably at least another 24 hours before the big boys overtake us.
