Day 7
Day 7 1300
Sunday 29th November It’s exactly a week since we crossed the start line.
That’s 7 whole days.
Progress is good and we’ve passed the 1,000 mile mark.
The days are getting hotter and the nights are balmy. The routines on board have
settled down and nobody is sea-sick any more. Some of the crew have even had two
showers. The female contingent that is – there is still a difference between
the sexes. Enter Tyara with a large fishing rod, gaff and landing
net and an intense desire to catch a bigger fish than Benji. The squid lure went
in the water. It was green. So was Benji for a few minutes when Tyara started
reeling in another decent sized mahi-mahi. It was going to be close. Who was
going to triumph?
Skipper was called to adjudicate. Out came the tape
measure. Benji’s had measured 34 inches. The crew stopped breathing – a bit like
the fish. The result was announced – 31 inches for Tyara. Benji had a smug look.
But size isn’t everything. Tyara’s fish tasted much
better !
