July 2009 and the 2 old men were back in Corfu frantically finishing the preparations to Peejay. Barrie immediately went below floor level and started drilling a few more holes – bless him.

Then the cavalry turned up to help fit the hydrovane. It soon became the talking point throughout the marina. Comments ranged from “what is it?” to “that won’t work - it’s not central”

A truckers’ dispute in Italy combined with a Greek ferry strike meant the new life raft arrived late and delayed our departure by 6 days. But that meant there was plenty of time for practicing new skills

But finally at 1800 on August 4th we were ready. Paul said goodbye to Wolfgang. Wolfie has become a great friend over the past 3 years and without him Peejay would not have been ready. Thanks a lot Wolfie – see you in 15 months.

And that was it. The crew for the first 300 mile passage from Corfu to Sicily hopped on board and cast off.
