Day 8 – Noon May 13th to Noon May 14th

Well that’s it then. We’re officially becalmed. No wind at all and the forecast for the next 48 hours is more of the same.

We waited and waited to see if the wind would come back but nothing happened. We killed time by taking it in turns to swim in a 5,000 metre deep swimming pool.

Graham in the Sargasso sea – that curved horizon goes right round 360 degrees

Still no wind.

We tried baking bread and having lunch

Still no wind

We passed time watching these amazing jellyfish float by. As well as the tentacles underneath they have this little sail they can erect and they can even pull it from side to side and effectively use the wind to steer themselves. We watched them for ages.

Amazing little creatures – none of us had seen these before

Still no wind.

People read books and sunbathed on the foredeck.

Still no wind.

Eventually time was running out and the skipper resigned himself to switching on the engine and heading towards Bermuda in time to cross the finish line.

Game, set and match to the triangle!
