Day 4 – Noon May 9th to Noon May 10th

We changed shifts last night and Pat and I started watch at 2000 instead of Graham and Barrie. Typical – about 2015 the heavens opened – first rain all trip and we had to get it. No justice. The wind did lots of fluky manoeuvres and we had great fun tacking several times in the rain to keep up.

Unfortunately the main event of day 4 has been no wind or light wind in the wrong direction. We’re inching towards Bermuda but are now about 50 miles off course. Is this the dreaded triangle effect? Time will tell. We chalked up 65 miles during the day but only 60 of those were in the right direction. It will be interesting to see which of the other boats continued sailing and which lost their bottle and used their engines.

Talking of bottles we passed the half way mark during the night and skipper surprised the crew with a lunch time party washed down with some perfectly chilled champagne.

Another glass of Moet anyone?

Not to be outdone Cheeso decided to join the party – we’ve forgiven him now for his rubbish steering – and are now blaming the triangle.
