Well, we enjoyed our two nights free mooring and took advantage of the limitless water to wash down the boat, we spent some time on the beach and swam in the warm blue sea. We were sitting outside the pizzeria enjoying a cheap supper and commenting on a large steel ketch which appeared to be sailing into the marina, I suddenly realised he was going to try and berth next to us, it looked bad, so I left my pizza and ran to the boat to find all the other guys from the neighbouring boats on P3 and the new arrival, trying to stop the two boats becoming enmeshed in one another, the end result was, no damage to P3, miraculously, a couple of broken steel stanchions to the other boat( shows the forces involved), actually, our bow roller was slightly deformed, causing the anchor retaining pin to fit where it didn't before!! Oh, and a cold pizza! It transpires that the new arrival was skippered by an elderly guy, single hander, he had grounded on the approach to the marina and put his sails up to tilt the boat over slightly to get off the bar, he says he forgot he had the sails up!! Single handers, they are a funny lot! Anyway, no long term problem and he was very apologetic, we had a chat later and it transpires he has sailed the boat around the world on his own, his wife died 10 years ago and he has been continuing their dream ever since, pretty sad really, makes you thank your lucky stars. Set off early this am, Mrs J arose at 0630 and helped con the boat over the bar and away from that treacherous entrance, like the star she is. On passage up the East side of Italy, hoping to make a port known as Crotone this evening.
