Saturday 12th July was our last day before leaving these islands. We shopped for the trip at Modello’s and watched a fiesta procession in the afternoon. Literally hundreds of floats, mainly old timber wagons drawn by bulls, bullocks, goats, sheep and the occasional truck. We were given free wine and bread and cake by these amazingly friendly people. We played scrabble and got an early night. Around 0600 Sunday morning, I was just waking up when our cabin door opened, I thought  it was Joe or Karin and looked up, a little irritably. Imagine my surprise to see this young guy in jeans and a grubby white sweatshirt, he closed the door, I rushed out after him and caught up with him in the cockpit. He was totally non aggressive and did not respond to me when I asked what the ....... he thought he was doing. The security guard appeared as if by magic and about half an hour later, the police. I told the police that nothing had been taken and that I did not want to press charges as we needed to get away. The guy was soaking wet and apparently had been drinking all night and had swum over to the boat. He insisted he just wanted to have a look. No harm done, but it makes one aware of the vulnerability of sleeping with the boat open. I shall have some security  grills made in Portimao .
