After a peaceful day and night in the sleepy little seaside town of Barbate we( Phil and Pat Bergin remain as our guests until Gibraltar) four set off after breakfast for Gibraltar. The forecast was correct with the wind blowing steadily, force 4 to 5 from the North West. We sailed down the coast, avoiding the kilometre long Tunny nets, at a healthy 6 or 7 knots and then, rounding Tarifa about lunchtime, we sailed up the Straits Of Gibralter aided by a fresh wind and tide propelling P3 along at 10 knots, the wind continued to increase in strength as we enteredt Gibraltar Bay and we flew across the bay, calling vainly on the VHF to Queensway Quay Marina where we hoped to spend the night. Finally we got a response from Queensway Quay to say they were full but might have space tomorrow! We tried Marina Bay who were also full and so we had no option other than to make our way past the end of the airport runway to the anchorage in Spanish waters. We dropped the anchor in 30 knots of wind and spent the rest of the afternoon and night here. The wind abated last evening and we had a fairly peaceful night. We have called the Marina at 0900 this morning and hope to have a space later this morning.
