At 0300 Karin awoke me to say the genoa was flapping. The clew cringle had ripped off and the sail was flapping like a flag. We rolled it in and tried, successfully  to motor sail with the main, still using the Monitor to bstay as the autohelm cannot predict the fluky, gale force winds and there is always the chance of a jibe. It all worked well and we went forward at 1100 when the wind had dropped to 25 knots and backed around to the North. We managed to drop the huge genoa without any sheets attached, a bit chancy but we had no choice. We ran up the 100% genoa and are now sailing at 5/6 knots, still hoping to make Portimao by Sunday lunchtime. Wind now down to 20 knots and all very pleasant although poor old p3 isw a bit damp inside! Spirits high and pressure cooker  hissing promisingly!
