Day’s run 141 miles

This included some motoring last night when the wind fell light and right behind us, and today’s midday position puts us exactly on the half way line drawn on the chart.

Today is grey and overcast but we are going well, with full main and boomed out genoa. We are heading a little to the north to keep the wind on the quarter, where it is a better angle for sailing, and are making great progress.

The wind has been on the same side of the boat for six days now, but sooner or later we will have to gybe. When that happens, Allan and Paddy will need to organise their bunks – until now they have been sleeping comfortably against the side of the boat, but will then have tie up the lee cloth to prevent falling out of bed!

Fishing – we have reverted to a traditional lure, though modified with a huge hook to hold on to the huge fish it will catch . . . . but for some reason nothing is biting. It has been suggested that the sea is “too deep” and even “too wet”, but at least Paddy is smugly relieved that a big fish has not been caught too quickly by his successor. If we do manage to catch a mackerel just outside Dartmouth you can be sure that you will hear all about it.
