We made 68 miles from Wednesday afternoon to 8:00am this morning – not bad in relatively light winds. But the wind has strengthened during the day and for much of the time we’ve been making 6 knots or so with 15 to 20 knots right behind us.

We’re sailing north of east, planning to get sufficiently far north to catch the east-going weather systems.

Just after dinner we ran into some thunderstorm activity with intense rain. We briefly hove to but continued on after the activity subsided. The picture shows Allan enjoying the first occasion on which he could use his new oilskins.

When the storm activity got to within a mile of Neroli we placed the handheld GPS, an important piece of emergency equipment, in the oven. Those who know their electrical engineering will recognise this use of a Faraday Cage to protect the instrument from a potentially damaging electrical charge. Luckily no bread was baking or the cook might have resisted this protective measure.

From tomorrow we’ll be able to resume reporting our daily mileage from noon to noon UTC(formerly known as GMT).
