The butter
melts...........
The general
advice given to transatlantic sailors taking the tradewind route is to sail
south until the butter melts and then turn right. Well, it is warmer, the
Cape Verde Islands are just to the south and, over the next few days, we will be
gradually altering our course to the west and St Lucia. As this is written we
have just crossed about two cables ahead of 'Cerys', an Irish yacht which,
according to her handicap, should be way ahead of us! Since our uncomfortable
night on Thursday we have been sailing with our tradewind rig and for much of
the time made great progress although conditions have gone light again and we
are down to 4kn. Our daily run to midday today was another record at 151 - 771
miles since Las Palmas.

Ciabattas!
Life on board
Neroli continues to be busy with routine maintenance and repair, mostly under
the expert direction of the skipper. The very high standard of cuisine
continues - Graham is not known for his culinary skills but here he is with
his home made Ciabattas. The dough is warmed on the generator before baking!
Tonight the skipper is preparing Spanish Omelettes and for the first time we are
cracking open a bottle of wine. Charlie's treat for us today was a whisky fruit
cake.
Little in
sight for most of the time but occasional flurries of flying fish brief glimpses
of a yacht's tricolour at night and very occasionally a closer encounter. We
have only been close to two yachts since the start day last Sunday and a huge
freighter has just crossed about a mile ahead of us.
