Gone fishing
29:38.1N 62:50.2W 65 miles covered, with much of the first 8 hours in very
light wind working on repairs. After some motoring we're now sailing again,
making 7 knots in about 15 knots of wind from the northeast. We expect to
be in Saint George’s on Bermuda by late Saturday or early Sunday
morning. We’ll make the most of what we hope will be a brief
stop. As well as getting the generator problem addressed we’ll be able to take
on some fresh food. Laundry and other chores will also be a great deal easier
and considerably more effective onshore. Wind has continued light. Even if we had been able to
continue directly to the Azores without this stop, our progress at this stage
would have been slow. Normal shipboard activities have resumed. Charlie has been busy
making arrangements for Bermuda. Allan continues his role as weather liaison
with Herb Hilgenberg. Richard has at last cracked the code of bread-making in
motion (see photo). Paddy resumed fishing after completing his modifications to
the equipment and very soon hooked a fine yellowfin
tuna. Sadly, for us, it got away before we could bring it on board but we’re optimistic that Paddy can repeat this effort. Everyone was too busy preparing to clean, cook and eat the fish to take a photograph as Paddy gamely fought it to a draw albeit in the tuna’s favour. |
