Getting
there..........
The weather
here continues to be kinder to us at last and we have broken our noon day run
record yet again. After an exciting night of rushing down wind, surfing on the
face of a big Atlantic swell, we covered 171 miles by mid-day and, as his is
written, we have just over 400 miles to the northern tip of St Lucia.
Tradewind rig
- twin headsails.
We have been
practicing our sunsights with the sextant and, after a lot of headscratching and
mathematics a position only 6 miles from the GPS position was
produced.
Lou shows us
the way.
Last night we
saw our first ship and our first yacht for almost a week - the yacht crossed us
and appeared to be heading for South America. The ship was on a similar heading
to us. The weather is wonderful with a temperature of about 30 degrees C, wind
F5 from the E and blue skies and puffy clouds which ring the occasional brief
shower of rain. We hear that the poor WAGs and their support team are stuck in
London Gatwick while the runway is de-iced! Perhaps we are better off
here!
