Henry 'the scrubber'.

Today Lou is taking over the authorship of our daily blog.

Seven days at sea and boy, does it show?  The tackle appeared this morning (fishing tackle that is!). Naturally the boys have turned to this pursuit since they are unable to take on the normal "blue" jobs at home like cutting wood for the fire, mucking about with a drill or chop saw, tidying the shed, watching sport on TV etc. They have a selection of enormous hooks and fancy lures that "Johnny Chick's" (the fishing tackle shop in Dartmouth) would be proud to display.  The rod is also something of a beast. Great excitement preceeded the launch of lure and line. Five hours on there has not been a bite which is something of a relief as I am not sure what we shall do with  a 30lb tuna.
Yesterday Charlie managed to cross off lots of DIY tasks including remedying the lack of water pressure by cleaning out the filter, upgrading his patented home windlass furling gear for the large gennaker sail and also fiddling with the generator. After that he was able to spend some hours in "the office" (nav station) and then cook amazing Spanish omelettes for the rest of the crew. He also produced a surprise for us in the form of a "Glenfiddich Whisky Cake", obviously not a low calorie choice! Henry is determined to keep in good shape and has been seen doing tricep dips in the cockpit.
Despite changing watch order with Graham today, which curiously gave Henry most of the day off he has kept very busy. He baked bread this morning - seeded brown with walnuts so breadmaking is also turning into a competitive sport. He has also scrubbed the cockpit clean of the tell tale remains of far too much good food spilt when rogue waves prove too much for the food / plate balancing skills that we are all developing. Graham continues to decode the weather info and keep us abreast of the positions of the other boats.
As I write this we have logged just under 950 miles, the temperature is rising and the flying fish are a regular spectacle. There has been little progress on the Airfix models but Charlie assures me that he has plenty of white spirit for cleaning the brushes so no excuse really. I am not sure why he needs the white spirit as I am not anticipating sprucing up the saloon with any "Farrow and Ball" before we reach St. Lucia. I guess I will just have to join the blue team and make that model!
