Monday 30th September, 2013 We’ve headed for Sorrento nearby to spend the night, and get stuck in horrendous traffic jams at 5 p.m. along this coastline with only a small two way road between the main towns as the main artery. Never mind, it’s a gorgeous little boutique hotel right on the edge of the water, on the cliff, near the top middle part of this photo
A couple of Cruise Sailing ships are anchored in the Bay.
The View of Sorrento Harbour from the terrace and across to the bay to Naples and Vesuvius just perfect!
Aperitivo on the terrace at sunset – a great end to the day Tuesday 1st October 2013
Stunning views along the coast road, electric blue reflections in the sea against the sheer cliffs of that coastline ensure that we understand why this coastline is so popular, specially when the sun is shining!
There are plenty of areas where we can pull the car in and take the view, but many are filled with the local people selling their lemons, oranges, melons, chillies and home made ‘Lemoncello’ and other produce
Portofino is a delightful fishing village hanging on the side of the cliffs
That’s Amalfi in the centre of the photo
Restaurant with a view sticks out precariously from the edge of the cliff!
Amalfi itself was full of buses collecting people coming in from their cruise around the coast, making the tiny narrow roads in the town totally jammed at crucial passing points.
Like this tunnel exit into the village
We decide to climb back up to the heights of Amalfi and find a lovely Taverna just on the edge of the cliff overlooking the bay.
A Sicilian lady who used to be Managing Director of a metal company there decided to buy this as her retirement plan – as she just loves cooking! So the food was excellent, and so was the Sicilian wine she had on offer.
Such pretty little towns and villages up in the hills, and no tourists!
Back down to the main arterial coast road, the traffic doesn’t get any better though!

Not too many villages on this peninsula makes it a great place for walking too |
