We head
out towards Barry’s Way, the unsealed road crossing the snowy
mountains
from Victoria into New
South Wales

The road
winds its way right past the Snowy River, marking the border between
Victoria and NSW

Butterflies
are in proliferation as the wedge-tailed eagle glided above us searching
for food

The view
from this ridge is such a great spot for lunch

The
eucalyptus lining the unsealed road is so typical of this part of the
country

The Snowy River hydroelectric scheme at Jindabyne was nearly sold off by
the NSW
Government into private hands, until yesterday (2nd June 2006)

This was
like a small Welwyn Garden City (the new town close to us where we live in
Hertfordshire),
but only 150,000 live here, so it felt a bit dead,
even in
the middle of the CBD on a Saturday night!
The National Museum was wonderfully
engaging, specially the introductory Circa show,
showing
The many faces of today’s Australian citizens, and how they need to
find an identity.
The Australian War Memorial Museum was
recommended by friends,
and we
were not disappointed to learn so much more about the Japanese bombing
of Darwin and Australia’s part in the 2nd world war

The road to Sydney takes us via Fitzroy Falls, ancient river bed formed
in one
of the ice
ages, is in the NE corner of Morton National Park.
We didn’t have time to do a long
treck
here, but the Blue Mountains are similar,
and we
shall be back!
