Adunara Island, Sagu bay
Saturday 11th
September 2010
After taking a shower, we
motored around the corner into Sagu bay to anchor for the night. This local
ferryman came straight at us to take a look,

And promptly motored right in front of our bows!
It’s meant to bring them luck?

We dinghied over to the village to see if we could
find a jetty for David to get ashore from. No such luck, there’s an
onion topped mosque, and a lot of rickety private jetties, but that was all.
We had hoped to find a taxi to take us up the volcano, but obviously we were
on the wrong track!

The local boat we had
anchored close to decided to move closer to the shore

Maybe they were afraid
we might make too much noise?

But our afternoon
siesta was soon interrupted by a visit from this young 15 year old boy and
friends

After chopping open a
couple of the coconuts we had been given from the previous island, he offered
to take us ashore to go to the market, as he was on his way there too

He was dropping off
these gerry cans in which he had bought water from this local village, his
village obviously having none
We were too late for
the market, but I bought a bottle of fruit squash and a packet of biscuits
for them to share. The young boys caught sight of us, despite the fact that
they were in the middle of a football match, and ran after us to have their
photo taken. A quick retreat back to Ankor’s boat allowed me a distant
shot of them as they waved us goodbye from the beach!

It was a quiet night,
not like the night before, which I suppose was to be expected, being Friday,
the Muslim Sabbath. There were three lots of people chanting the Koran at 6
a.m. and at 6p.m.

What better morning
sunrise than this one behind the volcano?
