Ko Ratcha Yai

Monday 22nd November 2010

It looks very busy here, but with such a safe bay to pick up a mooring in, and beautiful clear water, and only 10 Miles from the main island of Phuket, why not enjoy it?  Of course, the up side was that we could go ashore, attaching the dinghy to a floating pontoon, and buy some ice from the restaurant!

One large private yacht Maverick was in the bay.  We arrived at 14.00 just as all the tour boats were leaving.  The mooring looked like quite a large piece of concrete block, safe enough for the light winds.  Only one other sailing boat was in the bay, followed by three more by the end of the evening

The upmarket Ratcha resort sent us to a local restaurant close to the bay on the opposite side to buy the ice, never mind, a fresh fruit sorbet quenched the thirst before we climbed up the hill, past the coconut plantations and the resort’s generator plant at the back of the development, (which is still under construction).   I emptied the freezer of all the unsavoury food which was rapidly going off, cooked up a huge chicken curry, throwing away those some of the pieces to the school of fish, which ravenously enjoyed such easy pickings just below our boat!  It kept David amused during his cooling off in the clear water whilst I slaved over a hot stove down below.

Never mind, we had yet another great sunset to enjoy from the aft deck, contemplating the change in the weather which was accumulating over Phuket, just to the North of us

Plenty of thunder and lightening later that night became a torrential downpour by 1 a.m.

At least we had clean decks again!
