TAPAS TIME IN SAN SEBASTIAN
David in Tapas Bar, old town San
Sebastian
The fun of the Spanish family and friends gathering in the
cafes in the evening in San Sebastian was nothing like I imagine.
Huge legs of smoked mountain ham hanging in the rafters of the ancient
bars, with friends enjoying trying out a variety of 'TAPAS' all made up
with slices of bread with either salami and tomatoes, mountain ham and
olives or sardines and peppers, baby eels such as those on the
plate below. Dishes of these are laid out on the counters to eat
along with your glass of wine.
A procession of demonstrators peacefully walk the streets to
the square to let the public know about the hundreds of incarcerated
Basque separatists, imprisoned for terrorist activities. They want
a free Basque country, as they have been a race separate from the Spanish
and French countries for the past 500 years.
