Mr. Echo Tango

We are lucky to have a wonderful friend ashore in Ireland, who keeps us
abreast of important international political news, sends weather reports and
makes suggestions for sail and course plans. ET was aboard with us from
Kinsale to Las Palmas in October 2021. His passion for sailing and being out
in the open sea is infectious. His zest for life is contagious. His sailing
knowledge is legendary. He is simply a great guy to be around, at home or
onboard.
Recently, ET sent the following statistic published in the Guardian
newspaper: "Microplastic pollution has been detected in human blood for the
first time, with scientists finding the tiny particles in almost 80% of the
people tested." We, of course, do not know the sample size and what this
information means exactly. Will it cause blood clots, will it move
cholesterol around and flush it out of our systems? We do not yet know. To
me this news is frightening. Hopefully the research will finally be a call
to action for governments worldwide.
Today is recycling organization day on Irene IV. We will separate glass, tin
cans, and plastics. Additionally, we will separate all the various types of
plastic, in the hopes that we will, at the very least, all learn how to
identify the differences.
Yesterday the crew celebrated the halfway mark with 2 bottles of champagne
and freshly baked flapjacks on the forward deck.
Today is catch a fish Friday! Hope reigns eternal!
