La Réunion Helicopter Flight

Dad, Durcan and I arrived at the Corail Helicopters at nine o’clock. We were
greeted by fifteen friends from the rally. We got split up into three groups
of six people. Our one was called Charlie. We all watched a short safety
video and then waited for our helicopters to arrive.

The first two landed at about 09:50. We all walked out to the loud
helicopters in the certain formations we were given. We clambered into the
Helicopter which had a rather large amount of leg room. I was put in the
front which had the best view. Unlike a plane taking off slowly, the pilot
pulled the throttle up and we shot straight up into the sky. We could see
the second helicopter take off seconds after us.

As we flew up into the air I for some reason felt very relaxed looking down
at the beautiful landscape. The landscape was very dramatic, many waterfalls
and gorges. The pilot flew into a gorge very low down and sped through it
which led us to a beautiful waterfall. The other helicopter was only meters
behind us.

The pilot then took us to the outskirts of a live volcano as we were not
able to go any closer to the magma due to the unfortunate dark clouds over
the volcano that day. The last ten or so minutes we spent flying over the
coast of La Reunion.

After an exciting forty-five-minute flight we landed back on the helicopter
landing pad. We took some photos of us with the helicopter, walked through
the gift shop and then set off for lunch together to chat about our
experience.
