"It must be easy after all,
When it finds the waves asleep,
For a spanking breeze to bring a squall
>From the cradle of the deep."
Log of The Avonmore
Cork, 1906

A spanking breeze was indeed delivered, as some of us and the waves slept,
despite a forecast to the contrary. We are sailing comfortably, with
mainsail and genoa bellies full, on a southerly course, one waypoint left,
before our Wednesday morning arrival to Las Palmas.
>From the cradle of the very deep, we sail above 4250m of deep and mysterious
waters, rod fishing has eluded us. Despite Jono's constant efforts and
prayers to land a tasty tuna, the boning knife continues to hang idle on the
knife magnet in the galley.
The baking aromas of Eddie's scones, Sabine's cooking and Stuart's coffee,
are naught compared to the techno delights concocted, before we sailed, by
the master Baker, Chris! The flashing screens; red lights; blue lights and
all colours in between; the beeps, bells, burps and belches; the Grib files
received; the emails sent; the throughout boat music; legendary Lenny;
Seanie the fridge, the cursing Cork refrigerator man; rigger Harry, and much
more - Chris was the guru chef who brought the meal together and made it
possible for us to dine in such style. Chris Baker we bow to you each day -
Namaste.
