The Big Adventure
Doug Gillis/Shirley Hunter/Chief of Security Rags

The day started well with eggie bread and bacon. The captain is currently
changing the oil again and then we will hoist up the anchor and go and try
find a bait camp or something where we can stop for 5 mins for Rags –
still no internet access so when you read this it will be a few days out
of date.
We came upon one of the Locks – and it was closed and not expected to
reopen for 36 hours – a barge had hit it and made a big hole in it. When
we approached there were over 30 tow barges waiting. The lock keep told us
about an alternate route through a Bayou and down to another lock. The
captains comment on the bayou this morning was –“It got a little skinny in
there” - Meaning it got very shallow in places and we have this 5t deep
keel to worry about. The detour took us an extra 3 hours but we made it in
to Shell Morgan marina ( I am using the word loosly) just after sun set
which worked well. We re-fueled and stocked up on ice and it had
electricity so we were good for the night.
