Arrived in Brunswick this morning, following a trip that was memorable for its unpleasant nature rather than the intoxicating mix of sea and sky, on this occasion water in copious quantities from both, enough said.
tomorrow off to Beaufort NC, maybe two days!

this understates my initiation to overnight sailing as I arrived on deck as Tom was also awoken owing to an impendig storm which iincluded winds from apparently all directions and a crew which was incapable of briinging in the sheets before they turned into self fomed knots. 30 hours later our sodden clothes were still lying on the floor of the shower but we had learned to put on oil skins before venturing above the hatches . luckily we have found a hick town with one good restaurant which james was able to establish a prime time booking.
we hope the weather forecasts are not wrong again tomorrow T
This was a test of character, friendship and team work. These were not nice conditions , very rolly , very wet and very draining of energy and patience. Tom skippered with spectacular skill and cool in difficult conditions. There was however a few seconds when we were trying desperately to get sails down quickly when even he said he has lost track of which direction we were pointing in because visibility was so bad. Tony has been spectacularly reliable , even tempered and considerate doing more than his fair share of wet , watch hours. Having said all this , conditions improved today and we have just had an excellent meal in Brunswick . So thinks are moving back to normal. We heard a most unusual pronunciation of ' Gloucester " today which I incapable of conveying in this blog but I will try an imitation when I return. Why is it so funny to hear others mispronounce words which we think should be pronounced in only one way ? We saw a lot of wildlife today out in the ocean including dolphins and , best of all for me, a turtle swimming along.-- James
Oh, just remembered, boiled peanuts from the market, still warm, were a great hit. Have our tastes declined or become elevated, i think the latter.........
