30th April

All day spend servicing winches which is now done. The big
primary winches proved to be a handful with more parts than a light aircraft.
All the winches seem a lot happier for the attention and those on the mast were
in dire need of it – probably because they receive more attention from
the salt water. Jay finished the for’d dorade and the helm seat and all
that is left from that job is to touch up the varnish work. Mike Smith from
Portland Yacht Services is down here tomorrow attending to some work on another
yacht. He has said he will drop by and I am hoping he will have time to install
the bilge pump monitor. Mike installed all the electrical equipment on Osprey
during the refit and he is a terrific engineer. It will be great to have him on
board for a while and an excuse to also stop work and head for the bar at the
end of the pier. The boat had to be scrubbed down after completing the winches
as there was diesel and grease everywhere – it’s amazing what washing
machine powder such as Tide will clean up! Regards John |
