Today we crossed the Guadaloupe Channel from Falmouth to Deshaies. Turned
out to be a rough passage and Anita was white at the end of it - mainly
because she was covered in salt! 35 Knot winds and confused but large seas
made for an uncomfortable crossing and for the first time (including
hurricane Noel) we were shipping a lot of spray into the cockpit. We were
both glad to get to Deshaies - pronounced Dayhay and it is a great little
spot which the French Colonial system has returned to owners but never left!
A difficult anchorage with swirling winds around the basin but very pretty.
We motor sailed most of the way simply to get through the passage quickly.
Tomorrow we are planning to head down to Pigeon Island which has a marine
sanctuary and anchor there for the best part of the day and night. Our
immediate goal is Portsmouth in Dominica where we will top up with fuel and
water. We have both had too much weather and sun today so no doubt will
sleep well tonight weather and the other anchored boats willing.
