We finally anchored in Pine Cay at 1130 this morning - 18th May. A more
tranquil and "Robinson Crusoe" type bay and beach would be difficult to
imagine. Charles was in the water almost before the anchor which was good as
he was able to check how it lay on the bottom. Entering the lagoon was a
little tricky but with the help of Charles' poloroid glasses we were able to
thread our way through the coral heads and second time around got to where
we wanted. We are about 400 yards from the beach - could not get closer
without taking unecessary risks. It was a relief to turn off the engine and
the log book shows we used it for 75 hours between Antigua and Pine Cay.
Considering the engine has only doen a total of 225 hours since its rebuild
4000 miles ago in Portland ME early 2007 we have really made it work for a
living on this trip. Lets hope the next leg to Florida gives us a little
more wind. This afternoon Charles took us for a trip in the RIB to locate
the old fort so we can dive on some artifacts there tomorrow morning. Being
in the RIB with Charles driving is definately an exciting acquired taste!
The water here is a beatiful blue and chrystal clear so we will enjoy
looking for the cannon which were originally in the fort prior to being
repositioned by a hurricane. Had a look at the hull whilst swimming around
the boat, it is starting to look like its done the 4000 miles from New
England and definately needs a thorough wash down and polish. We might have
a go at at least cleaning off the smoke marks from the exhaust after our
expedition tomorrow morning.
