Town at 0830 this morning - clearing customs was simple and quick with the
biggest hassle being finding the exact $5.30 for the fees as they had no
change, or the till was locked. The skipper of a motor yacht bailed us out
with one dollar and John promised him a beer in Southampton where he was
based. Anita being her usual self found and gave him a British 50p piece.
Three cruise vessels of various shape and size arrived in the harbour whilst
were there and it was obvious that customs were going to have a busy Sunday.
Back on board Osprey we got the dingy hoisted onto its davits and were soon
underway for Gorda Sound which is right on the north of Virgin Gorda Island.
We were unsure what we would find once we got there and only new that there
was a small passage through the reef which we had to find to enter what on
the chart looked like a large and well protected bay. The passage turned out
to be well buoyed so we had no difficulty and after our usual snoop around
found a stunnung little beach and bay called Vixen Point. Very secluded and
with a little hut style bar on the beach and a few mooring - one of which we
picked up. The anchorage is completely sheltered from all but a southerly
wind and we are within a 100 yards of the beach. We went ashore to check out
the beach bar which turned out to be run by a husband and wife team from
Guiana. We had a drink and lunch with them and whilst the selection was
limited the food was great. We have decided to have two days here then head
off for St Kitts on Tuesday.
