We sailed the few miles to Fort de France and anchored easily in the harbour. once settled we went in search of an Ophthalmologist, you don’t get eye tests where you get glasses etc like in UK, you have to go to a clinic to see an ophthalmologist, the first place said the next appointment was in 2 weeks time 😱, we then asked in a glasses shop and they kindly phoned someone and arranged for us to go to see someone immediately not to far away. We found Dr Bapte in a rundown building, he seems to be someone who sees maybe poorer locals as there were a few people waiting in the waiting room. we sat and after a short time Steve was called in, in front of everyone waiting 😬, I went in as well, the Dr spoke some English but it was hard for Steve to explain what was happening with his vision, he was given a general eye health check , pressures tested, disco, optic nerve and retina looked at as well as signs of cataracts ruled out and a basic vision test. All in all the Dr thought that Steve's eyes weren’t working quiet in unison and it was due to an eye strain injury. He advised Steve to do a simple exercise regularly and was confident that it would improve with rest and the eye exercises but it may the couple of weeks.
We then went for a wander to the shops - always good to get fresh bread and we found the veg market so got some avocado tomatoes red peppers etc.
The following day we got the bus to go to decathlon We are both in need of some new shorts etc and then we went to a big Carefort to see what was there, the smaller shops don't sell fresh meat only frozen and in much larger quantity than our tiny freezer could cope with so I prefer to get fresh, vacuum seal individual portions and freeze it for Steve myself. While we were out Nicky and Reg arrived in the anchorage so they came over for sundowners, they are heading North so we won’t be seeing them again this year.
Earlier this year the authorities brought in a 48 hour max stay so you can only anchor for 2 nights now which is reasonable as people used to anchor here for months and its relatively small so now everyone get to come in and anchor - do whatever shopping you need to and then move off again.
