14:43.96N 061:10.86W We went ashore for a wander, St Pierre is quite a nice little town with a lot of history. Mount Pelee which erupted on 8 May 1902 sending a pyroclastic flow which wiped out St Pierre and all but one inhabitant. At the time it was the trade centre of Martinique and there were many boats anchored and today there are numerous wrecks along the coast, many caught fire from burning ash falling on their timbers and many crew died from burns or drowned. ![]() ![]() Some of the ruins left as a memorial to those who died in the eruption. ![]() We also did an excellent shallow dive on some wrecks to the south of St Pierre. As it’s been a while since we dived we thought an easy 6-7m would be a good start. We weren’t disappointed the wrecks are small but the beautiful coral and numerous fish made it a delight. The fish seem quite undisturbed by our presence🤩. ![]() We stayed a few days, Martin and Sharon caught up with us having not been too enamoured with Marie Galant 😬 and we all went ashore for a wander, cups of coffee and of course the inevitable shop .
